Antennas

antennas testing

Antennas are a critical component in RF communications. They are often thoroughly analyzed before being integrated into a system. We can measure gain of active and passive antennas as well as antenna standing wave ratio (VSWR) matched to a 50Ω system. In addition, we are capable of measuring EIRP (equivalent isotropic radiated power) and EIRS (equivalent isotropic radiated sensitivity) of RF systems. Our tapered anechoic chamber screens out environmental RF signals and allows accurate measurements to be conducted over a frequency range of 300MHz to 3GHz.

A comprehensive report of the test results is built according to customer preferences, utilizing custom in-house test and data processing software. Possible data formats include, but are not limited to:

  • Azimuth/elevation gain patterns for linearly and circular polarized antennas
  • Linear plots of antenna gain and axial ratio of circular polarized antennas
  • Intensity graphs that display 3D data (frequency, Phi/Theta angle and antenna gain) on a 2D plot by using color to display antenna gain measurements

Environmental

environmental testing

Environmental testing refers to a set of tests that subject electronic devices to environmental extremes in order to qualify their capabilities. This includes simulating natural conditions such as extremes of heat and cold as well as man-made conditions like interference from nearby electronics.

We possess a variety of chambers and test apparatus to support the full range of test conditions. This includes sealed chambers used to perform:

  • Dust Penetration Testing
  • Electromagnetic Interference / Compatibility (EMI/EMC) Testing
  • Humidity / Ice and Temperature Testing
  • Altitude Testing

We also have the experience and apparatus for performing the following tests:

  • Free-Fall Drop Shock
  • Repeated Shock Pulses
  • Random and Swept-Sine Vibration
  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
  • Power Line Variations / Surges

All testing is performed in accordance with US Government Standards.

Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V)

Characterization

Characterization testing uses an in-depth group of tests to profile the actual behavior of a product in all of its possible configurations and modes. This testing allows full documentation of the product's capabilities and identifies any design deficiencies before final production.

Our characterization services include:

  • Functional Limits Testing (for determining manufacturer specifications)
  • System Integration and Inter-compatibility Testing
  • Reliability (load, stress) Testing
  • Unexpected Input Testing

To support the full range of testing, we maintain a large variety of electronic test equipment, test chambers and automated test apparatus. All test equipment is maintained under a system of regular calibration of performance.

All testing is performed in accordance with US Government Standards.
